As a first-time self published author, I was unsure of how the entire process worked, but she was always patient, professional and wonderful to work with.

Will I be the sole owner of my cover?

Of course! Nobody else will have your cover, ever. Once you buy it, it’s yours forever, and I won’t make anything similar again either. There are some shady people out there who’ll sell their premade designs multiple times, but I don’t see how this is helpful to anyone. Your design should be unique.

Do you make paperback covers?

Absolutely. I make hardback covers, too.

Do you do illustrations?

No, I don’t do illustrated covers.

Do you make non-fiction book covers?

Not generally, but if you want one, I’ll make it! I’m excited to try.

Is there anything you don’t do?

Actually, yes. I don’t do heavy manipulations (like changing someone’s face or body in unnatural ways). I’m not into the glossy face trend either. I’d rather my covers look real and raw than fake photoshopped magazine covers.

And for children’s books, I think illustrations are best, so let me know if I can recommend an illustrator. Everything else I’m happy to try.

Can I bring my own images?

You don’t have to, but if you absolutely need a specific image in your design, then you can let me find it OR bring your own, as long as it’s high resolution and you have the right to be using it for commercial purposes.

Can I request changes?

Yes, you can request any kind of changes to your cover, and that’s included in the price. Don’t worry about whether I can do it or not, just ask for what you want and I’ll let you know if it’s possible. Generally speaking, positioning, resizing, changing fonts and colors is all doable. Sometimes even more.

Do I need to pay extra for licenses?

Nope, I pay for all the fonts and photos. The only thing you might have to pay for eventually is if your book runs over 500,000 sales and you have a special photo in your cover that requires an extended license, of which I’ll let you know.

Do I need to worry about copyright?

Your designer has to worry about that, not you. I use both 100% free photos and fonts AND pay for some extra-special fonts and photos (for example, photos of recognizable faces and places you need permission for), but I always double check if I have the right to use the font or image I’m using for your cover.

Are the photos commonly used stock photos?

I believe that you deserve a unique design that matches your unique story.

That said, I try to collect photos that are unique and then I add enough treatment to make the covers original enough to be different from anything you’ve seen. You can also use Google Image Search or TinEye to check if there’s something remotely similar to your cover. The tools aren’t perfect, though.

Do you offer book banners?

I do in fact offer book banners to my clients. I think using a banner for your #CoverReveal is more professional and it can include a mockup of your cover on a kindle, ipad, and paperback. Truth is, your book cover will look better on some social media platforms (Pinterest) than on others (facebook), so a banner kind of solves that problem as it can be made to fit all the platforms.

What do you recommend I get?

If you have enough money to order a custom cover, that’s my #1 recommendation because that way you’ll have a more original and more specific to your story design rather than a generic one that could match a lot of stories.

Just don’t do your own book cover unless you have design skills. (More often than not, it results in confused readers, low sales, etc.)

What if I have a deadline?

You’re going to have to tell me about your deadline and I’ll work with it, but bear in mind that you might be on the waiting queue about a month and then add another couple of weeks (minimum) for the making of your cover, and you’re looking at booking your sport at least a month and a half in advance.

So no last minute requests, okay? I could possibly help you with a last-minute request, but there’s a charge for it - it’s $50 on top of everything else.

What software do you use?

Photoshop. I don’t use any templates or programs that make ready covers, I actually enjoy making designs from scratch. So don’t worry, what you get is a completely original design from my brain to your hands. Ha.

What’s it like to work with you?

Honestly, I am just super laid-back and I’m totally flexible with projects and clients. I adjust to each situation and person, and go from there.

I’m also a perfectionist so you know your design will be good.
