Hey there rebel,
The story starts on a dreary Saturday, a week before National Novel Writing Month - the biggest writing event of the year where you attempt to write a book in one month - and the protagonist is a girl in pink pajamas, smearing chocolate on her keyboard. You know, a normal Saturday morning.
Obviously the girl is me.
As I was sitting there, just having watched the funniest movie about a writing group ever and looking at the #nanowrimo2018 tweets and partaking in a dozen conversations, I realized that I wanted more…
I wanted a place where everybody knows your name.
So I announced it on twitter and started the facebook group.
Five days later we’d reached 100+ people and had dozens of discussions.
This is when I realized - we all feel lonely when we write and we all need a community of people who argue with their characters and cry when they die. We all need the support and camaraderie, especially during this time.
(And it’s perfect timing for me, too, because I just decided to fully commit to writing my stories and living that writer’s life.)
So if you-
need the support
are doing NaNoWriMo 2018
bring positive vibes!
You should join The Rebel Writers. :)
P.S. And please answer the questions, so I know you’re not a spammer or something. Sometimes I’ll decline applications if I can’t find proof that you’re indeed a writer who wants to meet fellow writers.
So… what do you guys do exactly?
We talk about all the parts of the writing process, share resources, encourage each other, and all the other normal things writing communities do.
We’re also going to do writing sessions (write-ins) and word sprints for NaNo (and beyond) and beta reading, etc. All the really helpful things writing communities do. I want this to be the real thing. :)
We’re also laid back, so don’t worry, we won’t micro-manage you.
What if I’m not a rebel?
Oh don’t worry. I named the group the creative rebel writers because that’s what I call my favorite peeps - creative rebels. But if you’re not a NaNo Rebel or any rebel at all, you can still join us, as long as you write fiction.
What if I don’t write fiction?
Technically, you can be rebellious and join us even if you don’t write fiction, BUT all we talk about is telling stories, so not sure if you’ll like it…
What kind of genres do y’all write?
All kinds of genres! Mostly speculative, but really, every genre. Hah.
What if I’m not doing NaNoWriMo?
No worries, you can join us now and cheer-lead for us and join the conversations OR you can join us after November and bypass the whole NaNoWriMo thing. After November we’ll be doing beta readings and all the other things.
So this is support during NaNo and after Nano. :)
Can’t you start a Slack/Discord group?
Nope. Sorry. It’s just that I find Slack and Discord all over the place and very distracting, especially when I work. For me personally facebook groups are the best options, and if you don’t like that, just join those other groups.
No hard feelings. Do what’s best for you.
